| The cabin features a well equipped kitchen with plenty of cooking and eating utensils, a propane gas stove, lights and heat. |

| Guests will find a plush sofa to recline upon and read one of the cabin's many visitors logs containing entertaining and informative accounts of previous guest's stays. |

| The bedroom features four bunk beds with futons on the bottom that can be folded up make a little couch. Mattresses and box springs are mounted on the top and some guests may find using a mattress on the bottom bunk more comfortable than the futon. |

| Water is available from the cabin's well from May through December and after that guests will have to haul in what they need. The water here is sweet and tasty and worth the work. |

| During our mid-summer stay we encountered real working cowboys moving cattle up the road to new pasture. It was great fun to find our vehicle swallowed by this big herd and their bawling calves as they passed by. |

| The area surrounding Carnero Guard Station is noted for its unique volcanic rock formations and nearby Penitente Canyon is a popular rock climbing destination. Natural Arch can also be seen from a nearby jeep trail that passes by Eagle Rock and is worth exploring. |

| Anglers will find little La Garita Creek in the same vicinity and can try their luck at catching a wary, wild trout from its waters. |

| The restored church and a nearby country store with a good restaurant at La Garita are required stops when visiting Carnero Guard Station. |
